I am primarily a ceramic hand builder. My work focuses on the meditative, slow process of pinching and the intimate connection between myself and those receiving my works.
"For Us, Love Evelyn"
In this work, I hand pinch a table setting for my family of four. Focusing in on the very personal touch that pinching delivers, I strive to honor my love for my family and all they have done for me through intentionally creating each piece with them in mind. The result is an entire setting where in each vessel, the viewer can clearly see the long process and love that I put into the work. Just as I shaped each piece, my family has shaped me. I hope that the viewer feels the intimate connection between myself, my family, and everyone who visits the gallery.
"Warmth Bowls"
In this series, I think about the comfort of holding a warm bowl of food, and the connection that sharing a meal brings. I pinch ten bowls and invite my friends to come into the studio so that I may mold their hands into the bottom of the still moist clay. During this process, I hold their hands in mine as I press their unique print into the bowl. After fired and glazed, the end result is a personal bowl where each of my friends' hands fits perfectly into the bottom. The bowls reveal the intimate process of my pinching and our mutual molding of their hands. When my friends use these bowls, I feel an undescribed "warmth" and connection to them. They in turn reap the same feeling.
