"Walking With My Momma"
In this series, I dive into my connection with my mother and our mutual love of going on walks. Our walks are where we have our best conversations and where I feel safe to express my emotions and fears. Here, I cast my own feet and create plaster molds so that I may honor our walks by laying these footprints outside. I allow the process of the seasons to acknowledge these prints and to wash over them with love, molding them into the landscape of St. Olaf College and thus literally connecting my relationship with my mother to the Earth.
Body Painting Performance
Inspired by my love of artist Yayoi Kusama, in this performance piece I slowly paint my entire body with little white spirals. We humans are so critical of ourselves and I often find myself viewing my body as a collection of parts rather than the soft loving vessel which keeps me alive. Here, I aim to spend intentional time reconnecting with my body and to literally touch every part of myself as I paint myself completely over. The specific spirals which I cover myself with are the same as the little doodles I cover my notebooks with in moments of anxiety. I invite viewers into the room to watch so that we may connect in appreciation of our incredible bodies and raise awareness of obsessive compulsion disorders.
